Use a light kit that is made for your fan
Ceiling fan light kits are listed for use with specific fans. Adding a kit that is not approved for your fan can void the fan's listing and create a safety hazard. Some fans have no provision for a light at all, while others have a switch housing with a connector for a matching kit. We identify the fan model, find the correct kit and verify that it works with the fan's wiring and remote.
Weight matters too. A heavy glass light kit adds load to the motor and the box, and can cause wobble on a light fan.
LED light kits and dimming
LED lights use far less power than incandescent bulbs and produce less heat, which is a benefit in a hot climate, and fans with an integrated LED do not need bulb changes. To dim an LED light on a ceiling fan, the bulb and the control have to be compatible. Flickering, buzzing or a light that only works on full brightness is often a mismatch between the LED and the dimmer. We check what you have and fix the mismatch. Many fans dim their integrated LED through the remote, so no wall dimmer is needed.
Color temperature
Warm white (2700K) suits bedrooms, and 3000K to 4000K suits kitchens and offices. Some fans have selectable color temperature. We help you choose.
Light kit problems and what usually causes them
- Light does not turn on. Bad bulbs, a loose connection in the switch housing, a failed socket or a failed remote receiver.
- Light flickers. An incompatible LED bulb or dimmer, a loose wire or a failing driver in an integrated LED.
- Bulbs burn out quickly. Vibration and heat in an enclosed glass shade shorten the life of some bulbs.
- Light stays on when off. A stuck switch or a wiring mix-up at the wall switch.
