Fans in older Gilbert homes
Homes built in the mid-20th century and later remodeled tend to have eight-foot ceilings, smaller rooms and mixed wiring. When we take down an old fixture or fan, we check:
- Box type. Older metal or plastic boxes are rarely fan-rated. We replace them. See fan-rated box upgrade.
- Wire insulation and grounding. Older cable insulation can be brittle, and some circuits have no ground. We tell you what we find and what the options are.
- Wire type. Homes from the 1960s and 1970s may have aluminum branch wiring in places, which requires connectors approved for it. If we see it, we handle it accordingly.
- Attic access. Tight or limited attic space can affect how we add a box or wire.
Low ceilings need low-profile fans
