What size ceiling fan do I need?
Blade span depends on room size: about 36 to 42 inches for rooms up to 144 square feet, 44 inches up to 225, 50 to 54 inches up to 400, and 60 inches or larger beyond that. See the size guide.
What is the difference between AC and DC fan motors?

Do I need a wet-rated fan for my patio?

Can I hang a ceiling fan on a light fixture box?

What is a fan-rated box?

Can you add a fan where there is no light or wiring?

What do the wire colors mean?
Black powers the motor, blue powers the light, white is neutral and green or bare copper is ground. See wiring colors explained.
Do I need a permit?
Simple swaps typically do not. New wiring may. We tell you what applies to your address.
How do I know if an electrician is licensed?
In Arizona, electrical contractors are licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and you can verify a license on the ROC website before hiring.
