What safe removal looks like
- Power off and test. The breaker is turned off and the wires are tested before any wire is touched.
- Take down blades, light kit and motor. Fans are heavy, and we support the motor while disconnecting it.
- Disconnect and safely terminate the wiring. Each wire is properly terminated with wire connectors.
- Finish the box. The box is either covered with a blank cover plate or fitted with a new fixture.
- Clean up and haul away. The old fan and debris go with us.
What we do with the wires and box after removal
Live conductors cannot be left loose in the ceiling. Electrical connections belong inside a box with a cover. That means we can:
- Install a light fixture on the existing box, or upgrade it, since a light does not need a fan-rated box
- Install a blank cover on the box, with the wires safely capped inside, if you want a plain ceiling. This works only when the box is accessible, and we will tell you if it is not
- Install a new fan later on the same box, since a fan-rated box left in place is ready for a fan

Ceiling and paint after fan removal
Fans often leave a ring of dirt or shadow around the canopy. Fresh paint on the ceiling takes care of that, and if the canopy hole is large, we can fit a larger plate or fixture canopy that hides it.
